DAY 15 – Post Surgery Leo Is Not a Happy Patient

DAY 15 – Post Surgery Leo Is Not a Happy Patient

Post surgery Leo is… not impressed.

The cone? Offensive.
The limited activity? Unacceptable.
The calm recovery plan? Personally insulting.

If you have ever brought your dog home after surgery, you know this phase. They are groggy. Confused. Slightly dramatic. And somehow still strong enough to try to jump on furniture they absolutely should not be on.

Welcome to recovery mode.

What to Expect After Dog Surgery

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, common post surgery symptoms in dogs include:

• Sleepiness or grogginess
• Decreased appetite for a day or two
• Mild swelling around the incision
• Temporary mood changes
• Sensitivity around the surgical site

Leo rotated between sad eyes and mild betrayal.

Why Nutrition Matters During Recovery

Surgery stresses the body.

Healing requires energy, protein, hydration, and balanced nutrition. This is not the time for heavy treats or sudden diet changes.

I kept Leo’s meals extremely simple.

No fatty snacks.
No new proteins.
No experimental toppers.

Small portions. Predictable routine.

If I add anything, it is minimal and single ingredient. Rehydrated vegetables in small amounts for gentle fiber support and hydration.

Krunchmates works here because it does not complicate recovery. No additives. No mystery ingredients. Just vegetables.

When your dog is healing, you do not want digestive surprises on top of incision monitoring.

Recovery is about reducing variables.
